My Wife's Best Friend: Riley Reid Candy Shorts Series Review

What this is: a five-episode Candy Shorts series with the licensed AI twin of Riley Reid, in which the character is openly a famous pornstar. Two episodes free, three at 30 tokens each.

Best for: anyone who finds the licensing story more interesting than the plot. This is the series that admits what it is.

The Premise

Your wife’s best friend used to be a world-famous pornstar. She moves in. She knows what you have been thinking about.

Riley’s two other series in the main catalogue give her a character to play, a stepmom and a stepsister. This one does not bother. The character is a famous pornstar, played by the licensed twin of a famous pornstar, and the tension in it is that everybody in the scene knows who she is. Bonnie Blue’s two series and Riley’s own spicy yacht party run on the same idea, the performer playing herself, and this is the plainest version of it.

Whether that is clever or lazy depends on your mood. It does remove the one thing that usually breaks these series, which is pretending the face is not the selling point.

What It Costs

Episode 1 is free and open. Episode 2 is free but asks you to sign up first, the only licensed series in the main catalogue that does that. Both are the lead-in, suggestive rather than explicit. Episodes 3, 4 and 5 need Premium and cost 30 tokens each, 90 for the series, most of the 100 tokens a Premium month includes.

Standard Candy Shorts series charge 12 tokens an episode. The licensed ones in the main catalogue charge 30.

Episodes 1 and 2

Episode 1: A husband instantly recognises his wife’s guest: Riley Reid, the famous star. His wife says she is an old college friend, staying after a bad breakup, and has left that industry. Talk of retirement turns into a hint of a comeback. When his wife leaves, Riley notes he works from home and suggests they keep each other company.

Episode 2: Riley starts asking how things really are with Anna, and already knows the answers, because Anna tells her everything. She brings up a drunken night when the couple watched her work, and calls it a compliment. Then she makes her move. He objects that she is his wife’s best friend. Her answer: “best friends share.”

Is It Worth the Premium Rate?

It is the most interesting Riley Reid series to think about and the least interesting to watch, which is an odd thing to say about porn but it is just my honest read. The premise is a single idea, stated in episode 1, and the remaining four episodes do not have much to add to it.

Take the free half. If the meta framing is what you wanted, you got it in the first two episodes, and the paid three are more of the same. They have done so much better series with Riley that you can spend your token to.

Which Riley Reid Series to Watch

• My Stepmom’s Weekend: one weekend, two people, the tightest of the four.
• My Step-Sister’s Dormitory: anthology structure, a new encounter each episode.
• My Wife’s Best Friend (this one): the self-aware premise, strongest idea and shortest legs.
• Blackout At My Yacht Party: spicy, ten episodes, Riley playing herself at her own party.

Verdict

Worth the free episodes for the idea. Hard to argue for the 90 tokens when My Stepmom’s Weekend gives the same twin a story that goes somewhere.
